Time For Optimism
Hi *insert name of you who is reading this right now at this very moment in time*!,
Well I don't really know where to begin...
Thank you for choosing to come here out of your own free will I suppose!
My name is Harriet and this is my little environmental blog.
I don't really know what to expect, or what I would like to achieve out of this - I know blogging isn't going to stop the world's temperatures soaring & at most is probably a hypocritical action - but I've known for a long time now that I've wanted to do something against it, something stronger than just switching a light off, something more influential than just looking disgusted at litter on the street and perhaps, in conversation, I hope to learn new ways that can make a change. Positively. For the better for longer. In what little time we have left, I would like to work with you and try, just a little bit, to save the world.
That's a big ask. Although that goal seems unrealistic, of course we can't go back in time and change the course of humanity, it doesn't mean we should give up.
No more "It's too late." or "Leave it to the scientists." This is our responsibility. Our right to protect what's being destroyed. As they say; life's full of mistakes, they can't be changed or forgotten. But, we learn from them, like all the doctors, teachers, motivational Olympic adverts have said time and time again, we can and we will learn from our mistakes. It is possible if you try.
Well I didn't set out to start this blog with a motivational story but, since we've found a theme, below is a video link of Al Gore, Former Vice President of the USA, speaking about his optimism against the climate crisis. Truly inspirational words, and I don't say that very often as I feel it's a bit of an overused appreciative comment that's had all its meaning sucked out. However, he talks with such power and enthusiasm that I can't help but want to hear what he says, and I do believe it's honest.
Also, in case I've pushed any political buttons or if you have a great loathing for Gore, this video I'm putting up is not for any political purpose - In all honesty, I didn't know who he was until I saw his video a few months ago. I'm 16 and I don't know much about previous American politics.
This video is quite long so if you are in any hurry or not really sure if you want to watch it, I would sincerely encourage you to try and squeeze in from minute 18:14 to 21:10. Such wonderful words. These can be used in any situation you may encounter. Today on the train, tomorrow at work. Next week, next year.
Al Gore: The Case For Optimism On Climate Change
You are going to be what makes a difference in this world. It may be small, it may not be recognised, but you will achieve and be proud.
