Take a Look at Yourself and Make a Change
'TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF AND MAKE A CHANGE'
Ever feel like you're not being yourself? Like you're following a social consensus in order to feel self-assured and 'normal'? It's what the famous ones do, what the government allow. It's OK...?
Well no. It's not always 'OK'. The fact is, nobody knows what's right and what's wrong. That is why there's so much debate and confusion. So much anger, so much hate. We have juries for this exact reason.
An example of mine is energy. The exponential population growth has resulted in an ever increasing demand in fuel for heating and electricity for appliances such as kettles, TV's and phones, which are now becoming part of routine life.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to prevent economic development and, believe me, I don't want to go back to medieval life where people just survived and struggled to live through the freezing Winter months - that is definitely not my cup of tea -
My concern is with how the issue is being dealt.
It seems like an economical, practical solution to make deals with major oil companies and, currently, the idea of nuclear power is being pondered about. These are the same dirty companies that compete to drill (and therefore, shatter) the entire Arctic land.
I feel that it's been this way for so long, that these businesses are trusted too much and ones who (myself included in this vast sector of people) are less observant over their actions & agreements, just assume that the climate crisis is being 'sorted out by the scientists.'
This in turn encourages the unsuspecting public to exercise their right of a warm, comfy home. We demand cheap energy. Dirty coal, oil, gas, nuclear energy. It is the norm and no-one will question it.
Well the truth is, 'carbon pollution from the fossil fuel industry is now at an all-time high.' - understandable. However, once we get to the numbers, a sense of uneasiness comes about:
'110 million tonnes of heat-trapping global warming pollution is released every 24 hours'
110 million tonnes. Every day. How on earth is this healthy?
But, this isn't the only option. Don't forget that. We can live without the need to sacrifice our planet. In fact;
'Enough solar energy reaches the Earth every hour to fill the world's energy needs for a full year.'
I find this astonishing. We couldn't want any more. 'By switching to clean energy technologies (solar & wind power) we can get all the energy we need without heating our planet.' All we need to do now is change.
OK, I will be honest that in the past, I have felt a bit overwhelmed & helpless by the call for a need to change in order to save the planet. I still don't know exactly what to do, or what's the definite difference between right or wrong here because nobody knows. But, what I do know, is that it's not too late so today, I encourage you all to go and see what you can do and what you can change about yourself, which will, in turn, change the course of the world's future. To start you off, check out the Al Gore 'Climate Reality Project'. The positivity is incredible.
So go on, be that one odd person with solar panels on their roof. Pick up that litter when you're with your mates & think that little bit extra when you buy food, or even need to switch energy companies..... what's cheap now may come with a hefty, unforeseen price tag later on.
You can be the one to make a change.
