United. Smile.

Tragically we have been reminded in recent months about how swiftly a life can be cut off and just how brutal that can be.

Events that can only be explained with anger and bitterness, both inside and outside of UK borders, are putting our worldwide community to the test. Testing our strength. Testing our courage and testing our love & respect for one another.

It is difficult, after baring witness to these events, to step forward and be trustworthy with everyone. Our communities fragment and separate, setting in motion a catalyst for the process to happen again and again and again.

I find even the little things quite melancholy:
Desperate to get home after a day's work, sunken faces all spread throughout the train's carriage, you save neighbouring seats with bags. No-one dare ask you to remove it so they can sit next to you. Outside of your headphones, the carriage sits in a bleak silence. We dare not talk about the pain we have all endured.

Today marks one year since the Labour MP, Jo Cox, was murdered. But putting politics aside, we know actions of violence, cruelty and bitterness will not and do not ever amount in success.

Whatever your political views may be, may all you aim for in life, all that drives you and all that you strive to achieve, stem from your passion for happiness and freedom. To love and to be loved. Find peace in what you do day-to-day.

A quote from Jo Cox in her first speech to parliament

If anything comes from the legacy of Jo Cox, it will be of her care and respect for each and everyone. She made it her literal day job to help each and everyone around her and try to make life that little bit brighter. That hopeful message has not been shut down.

That hope continues and is highly evident throughout the coming days.

The Great Get Together is being made real by the British public. You are making events to bring your community together. Perhaps last minute - there is still time! It may be a music concert, BBQ in the sunshine, games, bake sale, an egg and spoon race... anything really!
In just half an hour, the number of get-togethers already planned has increased by around 10,000 nationwide! It still astonishes me that if we really put our mind to it, we mere people can do some incredible things, anytime, any place, no matter what the deadline.
  • Borough Market, people gathered, gave out food and drink and now give out hugs in the street.
  • Free taxi rides all night long in Manchester, water, beds and warmth. One Love Manchester.
  • And currently; donations of clothes, beds and toys in West London.
We must also not forget those who work tirelessly in our hospitals, ambulances, police and fire brigades. Without them, we would have nowhere to turn to. They couldn't do their jobs if you didn't support them so I would like to personally thank you for encouraging this, not just financially but mentally too. I thank you for all you say and do each day just to make someone smile.

We have create a beautiful world, abundant with happiness, freedom and anticipation.

Cruel acts tear us apart but we will patch up our battered community; not forgetting the scars but getting ready to stand up again, wiser and stronger.

This weekend, show your community that you are there. We support each other because at the end of the day, would you like to leave a memory to make someone smile?
